I would say that 2 or 3 days is plenty of time to visit Chernivtsi. I was
there is 2010. The central part of the city is being revived, with freshly
painted buildings and small parks. The center city is a bit shabby, but
lovely, the outskirts much less so. There was a small Jewish museum in the
square near the opera house. There is an nice art museum on the main
square, and the University is beautiful. I was very happy to just "be in"
and "see" the city of Czernowitz which my mother loved so dearly, though of
course it had changed so much. We stayed at a small hotel on one of the
side streets off the main square near the city hall because it was more
centrally located. It was not elegant, but clean and fine. We were able to
find restaurants at which to eat pretty easily. I would advise getting a
guide as the city is not tourist friendly and as street names have changed
multiple times if you are trying to find specific addresses. I thought I
had the name of the person we found, but can't seem to locate it at the
moment. If you are planning on traveling outside the city, plan for extra
time as the roads are pretty awful.

Good luck,
