Dear Andrew and List members,
Andy, you have presented some excellent points regarding plans for the unveiling of the Popovichi plaque, namely:
1)there can be no more rationalization over the risk of official Romanian involvement.
2)invite the participation of the Chernivtsi City Council in plans for the unveiling and issue an international press release announcing the event to:
a)remind the world of an heroic man and of the fate of so many of Czernowitzers
b)help put Cz on the map and function as a tourism promotion, which should appeal to the City Council members as a way to potentially generate revenues for the City.
I think that what is needed here is a Public Relations(PR) person to get this up and running, someone who speaks Rumanian and Ukrainian and perhaps other languages, a person who would be accepted in negotiations between Ukrainians and Rumanians, a person who could bring unity of purpose to and amongst, opposing parties.
If he would be interested and would have the time to make this commitment, I would suggest that Florentin Lehaci be the person to head up the planning and coordination of the Popovichi plaque unveiling in Czernowitz.
He has been there, seen it all, done it all and has prviously offered his assistance to help negotiate with the CZ City Council.
One need only read his posts to the list, including his most recent one entitled "explanations from Romania", dated Sunday, November 9, 2008 5:25:28 AM, to understand and feel the passion that this gentleman has.
Should she have the desire and the time for this undertaking, after already having been the underlying and driving force in making the plaque a reality and having given so much of her time, Miriam Taylor could perhaps consider working with Lehachi in his efforts and provide assistance as needed and directed by him.
Once again, Andrew, you have provided some excellent food for thought.

Florentin Lehaci makes a very good point when he asks about what are the plans for the time when the plaque is finally unveiled. Mimi has had such a struggle getting approval for the plaque that there was little thought given to the
> unveiling itself.
> We have two points of view at the moment on the quality of relations between Romania and the Ukrainians running what was once our town. Conceivably both views may be right since individuals among the city's rulers may be at odds with
> each other on this issue.
> But now, assuming the approval is truly fait accompli, there can be no more rationalization over the risk of official Romanian involvement, which would be most appropriate. At this point it might be in order to also invite the participation of the City Council in plans for the unveiling and certainly an international press release should be issued announcing the event - it will remind the world of an heroic man and of the fate of so many of Czernowitzers.
> As an inducement to the more negative individuals at Cz City Hall, this will
> also help put Cz on the map and will function as tourism promotion.
