Dear Jerry and members of the list,
Unlike many other Czernowitzers, I managed to forget all the Ukrainian
I was taught in school. Yiddish was the language of instruction, but we
were also taught Ukrainian as a second language. Therefore I do not remember
the inscription. But later as a member of the "Ha-Noar Ha-Tzioni", I learned
the same saying in Hebrew: "Hveh muchan, Tamid nachon."
Does anyone know, what is the origin of this saying?
Jerry, please share with us your other memories of that time.
Mimi
